St Alyre es Montagne is a comfortable day’s drive from most of the French ferry ports. We are approximately 730K from Calais, 600K from Caen, 640K from Le Harve and 700K from Cherbourg.

In all cases you can use the Autoroute network for the majority of the journey, with us being just about 30K off the A75 at Issoire. Should you prefer the more leisurely routes or wish to approach us from another direction, we will happily give you precise directions for the last leg of your journey from whatever location you give us. So, if you are leaving your yacht on the Med and heading north to us, you can cross the spectacular new Viaduc de Millau (a British design!) as it takes the A75 across the river Tarn, at a height of over 1000ft – a truly amazing piece of engineering.

If you are leaving the Atlantic coast or the wine regions of Bordeaux, the soon to
be completed A89 will speed your journey eastwards. Travellers from the east may choose the A72 from the Rhone valley, but again, there are many non-Autoroute ways to reach us from all points of the compass, if you prefer to take your time and soak up some of the real France.
